Fourqueux

Fourqueux is a commune with 4095 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Yvelines department in the Île- de -France region.

Geography

Fourqueux, approximately 25 kilometers from the city center on the western edge of the Unité urbaine of Paris. The village lies on the slope of a hill overlooking the nearby Seine Valley with views over the neighboring village of Saint- Germain -en- Laye. In the West, the Forêt de Marly Domaniale -le-Roi connects directly, a forest area with numerous hiking trails that extends over several kilometers and separates the urbanized metropolitan area of Paris from ländlichern surrounding areas. Just a few kilometers north of the community is the Forêt Domaniale de Saint -Germain -en- Laye.

The neighboring communities of the village are Saint -Germain -en- Laye in the northeast, Mareil -Marly in the east, L' Etang -la -Ville in the Southeast, Saint -Nom -la- Bretèche in the southwest and Chambourcy in the West.

Population

At the beginning of the 1960s Fourqueux had a population of less than 1,000 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 1970s and into the 1980s, the city experienced a strong influx, which left the population by the end of the millennium, rising to more than four times the value. Since the 1990s the place again recorded a slight migration, which is compensated by a surplus of births, so that overall population growth is still continuing.

Attractions

  • The Sainte-Croix church was built in the 12th century, after the old wooden church was from the 7th century, which was located in the same place, destroyed. The church stands as a monument historique a historical monument. In the church there is a crossroads of the painter Henri Marret.
  • Also as a monument historique also le Château villa known as Collin is classified by the architect and member of the Académie des Beaux -Arts Vaudremer Émile (1829-1914) was built on the site of the destroyed castle in 1841 and houses some works of art.
  • The House of Victor Hugo in 1836 purchased from the family Hugo as a summer residence, later it came into the possession of the painter Henri Marret.

Since 1 September 2007 Fourqueux after a ten-year friendship official twin city of the Westphalian city Schwelm.
