Farefare is the language of the ethnic group of the Frafra, which is spoken in northern Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Overall, this language speak about 820,000 speakers (2003) with a focus on the Upper East region (about 656,000 speakers) and at least 164,000 speakers in different cities of other regions. It is a widespread language in the Upper East region in northeastern Ghana near Bolgatanga, Frafra District and to the west up to the language area Navrongo. It is also in Burkina Faso spoken by about 200,000 people.
