Francesca da Rimini (Tchaikovsky)

Francesca da Rimini, Op 32 is a tone poem by the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The piece was created in October of 1876 and is based on the fifth canto of the Divine Comedy by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri. After three weeks, Tchaikovsky wrote to his brother Modest: "I wrote it with love, and it has been successful to me."

The selected Tchaikovsky Scene from the Dante work portrays the tragic love of Francesca da Rimini, a patrician 's daughter from Ravenna to Paolo, the brother of her husband Giancitto who both caught and murdered in the act.

The work is divided into three parts: The first part dark and dissonant third part describe Francesca and Paolo's agony, while the middle part, an Andante cantabile, the love of the two to each other expresses.
