Francesco Paolo Frontini

Francesco Paolo Frontini ( born August 6, 1860 in Catania, † July 28, 1939 ibid ) was an Italian composer.

Frontini received his first music lessons from his father, the composer and conductor Martino Frontini. He then studied at the Conservatory of Palermo at Pietro Platania and at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples in Lauro Rossi. The first work was his Qui tollis premiered in 1875 in the cathedral of Catania, headed by Pietro Antonio Coppola. After several chamber works (including a string quartet, 1879 ) was followed in 1880 as the second orchestral work, the Overture Spartaco.

In the following year Frontinis first opera Nella ( to a libretto by Enrico Golisciani ) was at the Teatro Comunale Catania premiered ( of the same year the opera Aleramo ). As commissioned by the city of Catania on the Feast of Saints Agata 1883 was the oratory Sansone e Dalila. 1883 published by Ricordi Frontini the collection of Sicilian folk songs Eco di Sicilia.

In 1888 Frontini composed the Grande messa da requiem, before he returned in 1889 to the opera. This year was premiered in Palermo Don Bucefalo. Created in the same year opera Il Galeotto remained unplayed. A new collection sizialianischer songs appeared in the following year under the title Natale siciliano. The 1890 also resulting Opera Fatalità was not listed. In 1893 he composed his most successful opera Malia to a libretto by the writer Luigi Capuana. The work was, inter alia, at the Teatro Brunetti in Bologna, at the Teatro Pacini, Catania (1894 ), at the Alhambra Theatre in Milan (1895 ) and played at the opera houses in Syracuse and Trapani.

1898 his lyrical poem Medioevo was performed in Naples for voice and piano at the Teatro dei Fiorentini by Lucio Costanzo, 1899, published by Ricordi in pressure. Frontinis last opera Il Falco kidney ( by Leopoldo Marenco ) was founded in 1899 successfully performed in Catania. He then returned with works such as Intermezzo ( 1904), Marcia trionfale (1907 ) and the Idillo (1912 ) for instrumental music. In his later years, another collection of Sicilian songs Ciuscinà (1928) and the Canti del popolo religiosi siciliano (1938 ) published.
