Francesco Pignatelli

Francesco Pignatelli ( born February 6, 1652 Senise, † December 5, 1734 in Naples) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

The son of a Neapolitan nobleman and nephew of Pope Innocent XII. joined in 1665 the Order of Theatines and was a doctor of theology. He laid on February 18, 1669 from his profession in Naples.

In the religious houses in Rome and Madrid, he taught as a lecturer in philosophy and theology, before King Charles II of Spain providierte him Archbishop of Taranto. Pope Innocent XI. appointed him on September 27, 1683 actually Archbishop of Taranto, so that he in the Sant'Andrea della Valle in Rome, together with Giacomo Cantelmo received episcopal consecration by Cardinal Carlo Pio on October 3, 1683; Co-consecrators were Giuseppe Bologna and Gregorio Giuseppe Gaetani.

Since April 16, 1700 Papal throne assistant, he was appointed on 19 February 1703 Archbishop of Naples. Collected on December 17, 1703 Cardinal, the Pope sent him the red biretta to Naples and raised him on February 11, 1704 Cardinal Priest of S. Marcellino e Pietro. In 1719 he became Cardinal Bishop of Sabina, 1724 in Frascati, 1725 by Porto and Santa Rufina. In June 1726, he renounced the acquisition of the cardinal bishopric of Ostia and Velletri, that would be granted to him by the seniority forth to continue to remain Archbishop of Naples.
