Francis Delpérée

Francis Delpérée ( born January 14, 1942 in Liège ) is a Belgian jurist and senator.

Life

Delpérée finished his law studies at the Catholic University of Leuven in 1964 and received in 1968 from the Université de Paris his doctorate. From 1970 he taught at the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgian constitutional law until his retirement in 2007. From 1990 to 1993 he was dean of the law faculty. Since 1994 he has been editor of the legal journal Revue belge de droit constitutionnel.

Professional Delpérée worked as a corporate attorney, employed as an assessor in the department of law of the Belgian Council of State from 1985 to 2004. Francis Delpérée gained relative fame through his numerous publications in Belgian, French and international magazines and by its presence as an expert on constitutional issues in the Belgian media at this time.

His most famous work is called "Le droit de la Belgique constitutionnel " (Brussels, Bruylant, Paris, LGDJ, 2000, 1048 pages, ISBN 978-2-8027-1378-4 ).

Political career

In 2004 he rose to the center humanists ( cdH ) in politics and Brussels is a local councilor, Member of Parliament of the French Community and eventually Community senator. In the federal elections in 2007 Delpérée received 109 399 preference votes and has been directly elected Senator and Chairman of the Group. He also represented his party in the subsequent negotiations on the reform of the state.

Since 2006 he has been a municipal councilor in the municipality Woluwe-Saint-Pierre/Sint-Pieters-Woluwe.

Honors

Francis Delpérée is a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium and of the Institut de France ( Académie des sciences morales et politiques ). He is also Doctor Honoris Causa at the Universities of Aix -Marseille III, Geneva, Ottawa, Athens and Szeged.

In 1993, he gave King Baudouin I. the title of " Baron".
