Francis Robert Japp

Francis Robert Japp ( born February 8, 1848 in Dundee, † August 1, 1925 in Richmond upon Thames ) was a British chemist.

Life and work

Francis Japp studied natural sciences at St. Andrews University and a Ph.D. in 1875 in Heidelberg under Robert Bunsen, then he worked with August Kekulé. In 1877 he returned to the UK and taught chemistry at the Normal School of Science. From 1890 to 1914 he was a professor at the University of Aberdeen. He was one of the discoverers named after him Japp - Klingemann reaction. In 1885 he was elected to the Royal Society.
