Francisco Assis

Francisco Assis ( born January 8, 1965 in Amarante ) is a Portuguese politician and Member of the European Parliament for the Socialist Party, as part of the Social Democratic Party of European.

Assis graduated from the University of Porto bachelor's degree in philosophy. Later Assis lecturer at the Lusíada University in Porto. Within the Partido Socialista it from 1993 to 2003 Member of the National Executive of the party and, since 2003, Chairman of the District Association of Porto Partido Socialista. 1989-1995 was Assis Chairman of the Municipal Council of Amarante, and then a deputy in the Portuguese Parliament. In 2004 he resigned his seat to go to the European Parliament.

Assis is Vice President of the Portuguese representatives in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union.
