Francisco de Moraes

Francisco de Morais, and Francisco de Morais Cabral or Francisco de Moraes ( * 1500 in Bragança, † 1572 in Évora ) was a Portuguese novelist and treasurer.

Life

Morais was treasurer in the Portuguese King John III budget .. He came in 1540 as secretary to the Portuguese ambassador to Paris and began the romance " Palmeirim de Inglaterra " there to write, which was immensely popular. The book is considered by Amadis de Gaula as the second important work of this genre. It was completed in 1544 and in 1547 appeared first in Spanish translation. The first Portuguese edition was before 1567. Because of its clear style, the romance has even been praised by Miguel de Cervantes. Morais also wrote three moral dialogues. He was murdered in Évora.
