Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla

Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla ( born October 4, 1607 Toledo, † January 23, 1648 in Madrid) was a Spanish playwright. His two major works, Del Rey abajo ninguno and No hay Padre Siendo Rey, he wrote in the 1640s.

Life

According to tradition, Francisco de Rojas was born in Toledo and studied at the University and at the University of Salamanca.

Works

Zorillas works published 1640-1645 and inspired many European playwrights of the 17th century. His most famous piece, Del Rey abajo ninguno, also appeared under the title Garcia del Castanar. The piece No hay padre Siendo rey inspired Jean Rotrou his Venceslas ( 1647), Donde no hay hay agravios zelos and El amo criado influenced Paul Scarron Jodelet ou Le Maitre Valet. Entre bobos anda el juego served as the model for Don Bertrand de Cigarral ( 1651) by Thomas Corneille. Obligados y ofendidos inspired Les Généreux Ennemis ( 1655) by François Le Metel de Bois Robert, Les Illustres Ennemis of Corneille and l ' ECOLIER de Salamanque of Scarron. La traición busca el castigo, eventually influenced John Vanbrugh's The False Friend ( 1702) and served as template for Le traître puni by Alain -René Lesage.
