Francisco Varallo

Francisco Antonio Varallo ( born February 5, 1910 in La Plata, † August 30, 2010 ) was an Argentine footballer. He died as the last participant in the final of the World Cup 1930. He was due to its many gates also called Canoncito ( small cannon ).

Francisco Varallo began his career in the youth team of 12 de Octubre in his hometown of La Plata. A trial with Estudiantes de La Plata was unsuccessful, since his youth club 12 de Octubre refused to leave him. After he was able to prevail at Gimnasia de La Plata and was constantly appealing performances, he was called up to the squad for the next World Cup in 1930 in the year 1930 by the Argentine national coach Juan José Tramutola. After the World Cup 1930 Varallo joined the CA Boca Juniors with whom he celebrated many successes in the following years. He won three times with Boca La Liga and scored in nine years at Boca total of 181 league goals. This record was broken only in 2009 by Martín Palermo.

National

During the World Cup 1930, the attacker ran in four games for the Argentines and was able to in the second group match against Mexico recorded his only goal of the tournament. In the semifinals, he fell out because of injury, he could be reinstated in the final against Uruguay. The Argentine team led at halftime 2-1 goals against the hosts. In the second half, Argentina had to Varallo, however, strongly after and lost the game even with 2:4. For the World Cup 1934 Varallo was not summoned and 1938, Argentina failed to qualify for the finals. With Argentina, he won the Copa América 1937., He was able to record three goals in the tournament and was the second best scorer of the team.
