Franciszek Dionizy Kniaźnin

Franciszek Dionizy Kniaźnin ( born October 4, 1750 in Vitebsk, † August 26 1807 in Końskowola ) was a Polish Jesuit and poet.

Life

Kniaźnin entered the Society of Jesus, taught at the Jesuit College at Warsaw, and after the dissolution of the Order of Secretary of Prince Adam Czartoryski. He was in Warsaw in 1770 first known for his translation of Horace.

Then followed several dramas, some of which, such as the triple marriage, The Gypsy and The Spartan mother, were performed with applause, further idyll, odes, fables and Latin poems.

It is significant as a lyric poet, but he is in his odes often bombastic. A collection of his works appeared in Warsaw from 1828 to 1829 in seven volumes.
