François Annibal d'Estrées

François- Annibal d' Estrées, duc d' Estrées (* 1573, † May 5, 1670 in Paris) was a French diplomat and military, Marshal of France.

Life

François- Annibal was the son of Antoine d' Estrées and brother of Gabrielle d' Estrées, mistress of Henry IV He had already in 1594 the diocese of Noyon received when he, his inclination following, under the name of marquis de Coeuvres the army went, in which he soon rose to lieutenant general.

Under Maria de Medici, he was used to several diplomatic missions; In 1624, he was given command of the united forces of France, Venice and Savoy, to withdraw the strategically important area of the Three Leagues of the control of Austria and Spain ( → Grisons turmoil ). His son, Jean II d' Estrées, who in 1681 also became Marshal of France; whose son Victor- Marie d' Estrées received the marshal's baton in 1703.
