François Béroalde de Verville

François de Verville Béroalde (* April 27, 1556 in Paris, † between 19 and 26 October 1626 Tours) was a French Renaissance writer, poet and intellectual.

Life and work

His father was the writer and theologian Mathieu Béroalde († 1576 ). His mother was born Marie Bletz, a niece of the humanist and scholar François Vatable. In the time of the events surrounding the St. Bartholomew's Day which was held on August 24, 1572 at 23, his family fled in 1573 to Geneva. But Béroalde de Verville 1581 returned back to Paris. During the Wars of Religion Béroalde de Verville abjured Calvinism and joined the fractions to Henry III. of France to. In 1589 he moved to Tours where he became canon of the cathedral chapter chanoine of Saint Gatien. An office which he held until his death.
