François Dufault

François Dufault ( * before 1604 () in France? † after 1672 (possibly in London) ) was a French lutenist and composer.

As a student of Denis Gaultier he enjoyed an excellent reputation as an instrumentalist, as evidenced by many contemporary sources, where it is known as one of the greatest lutenist of his time. About his life almost nothing is known, it may be decided at the end of the 1660s stayed in England.

From him there is a collection of twelve lute compositions in tablature, along with several individual works in manuscript or other compilations. Then he took many liberties harmonious and wrote an almost improvisational style.
