François Hamelin

François Hamelin ( born December 18, 1986 in Lévis ) is a Canadian Shorttracker.

Living in Montreal Hamelin began short track speed skating at age five. He went in January 2005 for the first time at the Junior World Championships internationally at the start. He missed in all single race the finals, but achieved this with the 2000 m relay and won bronze. Also the bronze medal won Hamelin a year later, when he reached the third place over 1000 meters at the Junior World Championship. Since he had placed in the remaining races forward, he was allowed to participate in the Super Final of the best eight and missed there barely in fourth the podium. With the Canadian season he was even second and won silver.

In the season 2006/ 07 went Hamelin in any major event, but only at national races at the start. Only one winter later, he was first nominated for the short track speed skating World Cup 2007/ 08 of the Canadian team. In all disciplines, he was able to achieve results, but above all, over 500 meters, he placed himself in the World Cup on the front ranks twenty, because he had even finished the last race of the season over this distance in third place on the podium. At the 2007 World Championships Hamelin finished in eleventh place. In the 2007 season Hamelin presented over 500 yards also set a new world record, but only lasted a short time and was still undercut in the season.

Even in the short track speed skating World Cup 2008/ 09 launched Hamelin well and reached the second World Cup in Vancouver for the second time a podium finish, this time he was third on the 1000 meters. Winner of that race was his elder brother Charles Hamelin.
