François Lenormant

François Lenormant ( born January 17, 1837 in Paris, † December 10, 1883 ibid ) was a French historian and archaeologist, also one of the main representatives of Assyriology in France.

François Lenormant, son of Charles Lenormants, made ​​himself still young by monographs on the coins of the Ptolemies (1856 ) and about the Christian origin of the Sinaitic inscriptions (1859 ) is known, traveled in 1860 Greece, where he examined the ruins of the ancient Eleusis behalf of the Government, and acted upon his return as assistant librarian of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres, until he was appointed in 1874 to Charles Ernest Beules point professor of archeology at the National Library.
