François Prume

François Hubert Prume ( born June 3, 1816 in Stavelot, † July 14, 1849 in Liège ) was a Belgian composer and violinist.

Life

The son of an organist began at the age of three years following its own desire with the learning of violin playing. His first public appearance was Prume the age of seven with a concert by Pierre Rode in Liege. At age eleven, he received a scholarship to the Liège Conservatoire to study, after three years the director of the Conservatory, François -Antoine Habeneck sent him to Paris. After his return Prume became professor of violin at the Conservatory in Liège with only 17 years. Among his pupils were Hubert Léonard, Joseph Dupont (1821-1861), Jacques Dupuis (1830-1870), his nephew Frantz Jehin - Prume (1839-1899), and Nicolas and Jean -Pierre Ysaÿe, uncle and father of Eugène Ysaÿe.

Already in 1839 he gave the teaching to devote himself to numerous concert tours that took him across Europe. He had joint appearances with Franz Liszt. Prume received the honorary title " Hofvirtuose the Duke of Gotha". With only 33 years, died Prume on a " bad nervous fever ". The historical festival and concert hall of the former Abbey of Stavelot his birthplace was named after him.
