François Rebel

François Rebel ( born June 19, 1701 Paris, † November 7, 1775 in Paris) was a French violinist and composer.

Life

Born into a musical family, the son of Jean- Fery Rebel, he was like his father a member of the Vingt- quatre Violons du Roy. In 1742, he was head of the Concert Spirituel. He was appointed in 1749 superintendent of music and led from 1757 to 1767 the " Académie Royale de Musique " ( opera ) of Paris, together with his friend François Francœur. From 1772-1773, he took the lead alone.

He composed mainly religious music and in cooperation with Francœur several operas.
