Frank Edmond

Frank Edmond ( born December 23, 1966) is a former German footballer, who spent nearly his entire career at the 1 FC Locomotive Leipzig and its successor VfB Leipzig.

Career

After Frank Edmond had spent his early youth years at BSG Motor Leisnig and chemistry Bohlen, he moved in 1979 to the coming of the 1st FC Lok. At the time the 1983/84 season the junior league with all present in the GDR Oberliga clubs and communities reorganized, was also Edmond as a midfielder in the youth squad of the 1st FC Lok. There he fell in with good performances, so it was included in the squad of the GDR's national junior team and there played five internationals. Although also reported in the following season as a junior player, Edmond came on 14 Matchday 16 February 1985, when central defender with the first team in the GDR Oberliga used. In his first league season, he completed nine point games. In the season 1985/86 he was also officially registered for the league team, but came only five appearances and was not even in this fdgb Cup final that his team won 5-1 over the first FC Union Berlin. It was only from the 1986/87 season onwards he had carved out a permanent place in loco, but was also missing when the 1987 Cup victory over Hansa Rostock (4:1).

By 1987, Edmond was also a member of the East German junior national team, with whom he played 15 international matches. The biggest international success came to him when he reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1987 with the first FC Lok Leipzig. Against Ajax Amsterdam was Edmond in the starting lineup, but was replaced in the 54th minute. The finale in the end went with 0:1 lost. Overall, he played in four games this season in the European Cup, but came in the course of his career, to a total of eight international cup matches.

Even after the renaming of the association in 1991 VfB Leipzig Edmond was still in the squad of Leipzig. With his team he first played in the 2nd Bundesliga, VfB until 1993 they had the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga. In the single Bundesliga season VfB Edmond missed only one league game, scoring four goals in 33 games. After relegation from the Bundesliga Edmond remained until 1999 at VfB Leipzig. In total he played 349 league games together for the first FC Lok and VfB, scoring 21 goals. From 1999 to 2002 Frank Edmond playing for Eintracht Braunschweig in the regional league, before he ended his performance athletic career 35 years old.
