Frank Gannett

Frank Ernest Gannett ( born September 15, 1876 in Bristol, New York, † December 3, 1957 ) founded in 1906, the company Gannett. He was born in Bristol (New York) and graduated from Cornell University.

At the age of 30 he bought his first newspaper, the Elmira Gazette. Six years later, in 1912, he bought the Ithaca Journal. In 1918, Gannett laid and its partners its corporate headquarters to Rochester (New York) and five years later he bought out his partners and formed the holding company, which then consisted of only six newspapers.

In his remaining years he worked to modernize its conglomerate of regional newspapers and expand. At the time of his death he owned after more than 50 years as a newspaper editor 22 newspapers, four radio stations and two television stations. Only after his death, the company grew to become a national media group.
