Frank Shields

Francis "Frank" Xavier Shields Jr. ( born November 18, 1909 in New York; † August 19, 1975 ) was an American tennis player and actor.

Biography

His first wife, Rebecca Tenney, he married in 1932. Marriage was divorced in 1940 because of his " excessive drunkenness ". His second wife, whom he married in 1940, was the Italian princess Donna Marina Torlonia di Civitella - Cesi. With her he had two children: Francis Alexander Shields, the father of Brooke Shields, and Shields Marina. His third wife, Katharine Mortimer, daughter of financier Stanley Grafton Mortimer sr and former wife of Oliver Cadwell Biddle, he married in 1949. From this connection come from the children Katharine Shields and William Xavier Shields. This marriage ended in divorce.

Shields is the only Amateur Finalist (1931 ) in the history of Wimbledon tournament. Due to an injury he was unable to take the final game. In 1964, the induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

In the 1930s, he starred in several Hollywood films.
