Frankford (Philadelphia)

Frank Ford is a district of the U.S. metropolis of Philadelphia. It is located about ten kilometers north-east of the city center. Its postal code is 19124th

Its boundaries are the Delaware River and its tributary, the Frankford Creek, the Roosevelt Boulevard and Cheltenham Avenue. Adjacent neighborhoods are Bridesburg, Port Richmond, Juniata, Oxford Circle, and Wissinoming.

History

Frankford was founded in the second half of the 17th century by German immigrants. The name of the village was probably taken over by the Franckfort Company, the site today Frankford (then: Tacony ) Creek opened up. The town was an early suburb of Philadelphia. William Penn was a road from Philadelphia to New York City to create, one that ran through Frankford. The road became known as Frankford Pike, later as Frankford Avenue and became the main street of the village.

The Frankford Borough, founded on March 2, 1800, has been spatially extended on April 4 in 1831 and incorporated in 1854 in the city of Philadelphia.

Elevated railway
