Franklin is the county seat and the county seat ( county seat ) of the Robertson County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 79, near the Countyzentrum in west-central Texas and has a total area of 2.4 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The town was founded in 1872 as Morgan. 1879, the county seat of Calvert was moved to Morgan. Should be opened as the first post office, the name was rejected because there was already another Morgan and the inhabitants named the place to Franklin.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 1,470 people in 533 households and 351 families. The population density was 616.9 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 75.51 % White, 19.52 % African American, 0.20 % Native American, 0.41 % Asian, 0.07 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.93 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.36% were of mixed descent, and 8.84 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 533 households 36.8 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 44.5 % were married couples living together. 17.8% were single mothers and 34.0% were non-families. 30.8 % of all households were single-person households, and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.20 persons to.

29.0% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.9 % from 18 to 24, 25.0 % 25-44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.6 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 85.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 80.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 27,400, and the median income for a family $ 33,889. Males have a median income of $ 31,818 versus $ 20,441 for females.
