František Jež

František Jež ( born December 16, 1970 in Valašské Meziříčí ) is a former Czech ski jumper.

Career

Jež in 1988 for the first time participate in World Cup competitions. He was a member of the Czechoslovakian team at the Four Hills Tournament. He managed to qualify for all four major tournaments and reached in Oberstdorf and Bischofshofen the second round. At the Junior World Championship 1988 in Saalfelden in Austria he could win with the Czechoslovak team the bronze medal.

1990 was the most successful season for Jež. He was able to win the final in Bischofshofen at the Four Hills Tournament and finished second in the overall standings to second place behind Dieter Thoma and before Jens Weißflog. This season, he was able to celebrate three more World Cup victories. In the overall World Cup, he finished fifth.

At these services Jež was not until 1992 build again. After several placings in the top ten, he finished seventh in the World Cup and finished fifth at the Four Hills Tournament. At the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville in 1992 Jež could win the bronze medal with the Czechoslovak team. This result was improved in the Nordic World Ski Championships 1993 team. Behind Norway, they won the silver medal.

After nearly ubiquitous from 1992, the V- style, Jež had big problems to learn the new style and was never able to return to the good performances from the years 1990 and 1992. So he could often only laboriously qualify for the main competition and did not reach often the second pass. In December 1999, the last time Jež took part in a World Cup competition. In Chamonix, he finished 44th.

František Jež works according to his time as an athlete as a sports manager. He has worked among others for the Four Hills Tournament Champion and overall World Cup winner Jakub Janda.
