František Pecháček

František Pecháček (* February 15, 1896 in Záhornice; † February 3, 1944 in Mauthausen ) was a Czechoslovakian gymnast, world champion in the all around individual and resistance fighter against the Nazis.

Life

Pecháček was the son of a peasant Deputatlöhners from Záhornice. He grew up in Stara Paka on where his parents had moved shortly after his birth and joined the Sokol on. 1920, Pecháček at the Czechoslovakian team at the Olympic Games in Antwerp. 1922 Pecháček was together with the Yugoslavs Peter Sumi in Ljubljana world champion in the discipline turn -around individual.

Pecháček was the choreographer of the exercise set at the 10th overall meeting of Sokol clubs in 1938 at Strahov Stadium of 28,600 men " Přísaha Kingdom".

After the German occupation Pecháček concluded in 1939 in the illegal Sokol organization " Jindra ", which he headed from 1941. He made the parachutist group " Antropoid " in its preparations for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich active support. After Heydrich's death, the Gestapo came to him by treachery on the track and Pecháček hid in July 1942 with his wife Emilie with his brother in Zlámanin near Nová Paka. On 20 July 1942 he was arrested and sentenced on January 8, 1943 along with his wife by a state court to death. Pecháček one was transported to the Mauthausen concentration camp and there executed by firing squad.
