Franz Bendel

Franz Bendel ( born March 23, 1833 in Schönlinde, Bohemia, † July 3, 1874 in Berlin) was an Austrian piano virtuoso and composer.

Life

Franz Bendel was the son of an elementary school teacher. After first artistic instruction from his father, he was a student of Josef Proksch. Through his teacher, who encouraged him very, Bendel later came to Franz Liszt in Weimar, where he also Wendelin Weißheimer met.

1848 Bendel was hired by Count Otto von Westphal as house and music teacher. He held this office 14 years. On the occasion of the celebration of St. Cecilia in 1855 in Prague a Mass of Bendel was performed by his teacher Proksch. 1862 was Bendel settled in Berlin, where he became a lecturer at the New Academy of Music. There he lived and worked until his death, only interrupted by several small concert tours, such as 1863 to Prague, which received an honorable mention in the press.

As a practicing as a freelance artist Bendel followed the direction of the Serious and Dignified, and his numerous, accompanied by the best of success art tours (the last led him even occasionally of the Boston Music Festival to America ) could not ideality of his efforts to do no harm. Of his compositions, including four masses, symphonies and other major works, notably held in the Salon style piano works and numerous songs have been widely used.

His tomb is located on the French cemetery in Berlin.
