Franz Karl of Auersperg

Franz Karl Fürst von Auersperg (* November 22, 1660 in Vienna, † November 6, 1713 in Gschwendt ) since 1705 was the third prince of Auersperg and Duke of Münsterberg and imperial general.

Life

His parents were Johann Weikhard von Auersperg, Duke of Münsterberg, and Maria Katharina Countess of loose stone ( 1635-1691 ). His brother Johann Ferdinand von Auersperg was the second Prince von Auersperg.

Franz Karl Auersperg married in 1685 Maria Theresa, Countess of Rappach ( 1660-1741 ). The couple had six children:

  • Maria Anna von Auersperg (1690-1725)
  • Maria Franziska von Auersperg (1691-1725), married to Johann Joseph von Breuner
  • Leopold, Prince of Auersperg (1694-1704)
  • Heinrich Joseph von Auersperg (1697-1783), 4th Prince of Auersperg

Franz Karl von Auersperg was 20 years old captain in the Imperial Army. After the end of the Second Siege of Vienna in 1683, he brought the news of the relief of the capital of Emperor Leopold I. Later he became treasurer, Colonel in the Imperial Army, Governor of Karlovac and General Feldzeugmeister.

At the siege of Bihać he caused by Rank disputes with Batthyány the unsuccessful withdrawal of troops by Prince Eugene. Another failure he caused by disregard of instructions Eugene's campaign in Italy during the Battle of New Ulm 1702. 1705 he succeeded his brother Johann Ferdinand Duke of Münsterberg, a year later he represented the Emperor at the Silesian princes.
