Franz Penzoldt

Franz Penzoldt ( born December 12, 1849 in Crispendorf, Thuringia, † September 19, 1927 in Munich) was a German internist and pharmacologist, and the father of the writer Ernst Penzoldt.

Since 1874 in Erlangen, he worked until his retirement in 1920 from 1875 as a professor of internal medicine and pharmacology, and since 1903 as director of the medical clinic in Erlangen. He is an honorary citizen of the city of Erlangen

During World War II he headed the rank of General doctor's hospitals, had been converted to the numerous university buildings. That by him, together with Roderich Stintzing (1854-1933) published the entire manual therapy and his textbook of clinical drug treatment for students and doctors appeared in many editions and were in their time standard works.

Opened on 20 June 2005 Franz- Penzoldt center of the Friedrich -Alexander- University Erlangen- Nuremberg, which is the central institution of Medicine and the Faculty of Science for animal welfare friendly husbandry of laboratory animals, the use of animal testing and experimental services, was by named him.

His daughter was the opera singer Sigrid Onégin.
