Franz Seitz, Jr.
Franz Seitz; Pseudonym: George Laforet ( born October 22, 1921 in Munich, Bavaria, † January 19, 2006 in Schliersee, Bavaria ) was a German film producer, film director, screenwriter and 1980 Oscar winner in the category " Best Foreign Film " for The Tin Drum.
Life
Seitz was the son of the famous UFA film director Franz Seitz and the actress Anni Terofal, daughter of Xavier Terofal, the founder of Schliersee Bauer Theatre. His brother Hans Terofal worked in some of Seitz ' films.
After participation in the Second World War, several semesters studying medicine and temporary work as a painter Seitz turned to the profession of his father. In 1952 he founded, together with Jochen Genzow the production company Ariston film and worked closely with his father still together. Initially he produced some still with him, home movies. In 1956 he founded in Munich his " Franz Seitz Filmproduktion ".
In the 60s, then followed mainly comedies. Very special popularity reached its style similar to Ludwig Thoma Lausbubengeschichten and the similarly successful lout - films in which Hansi Kraus also played the lead role.
Later followed literary adaptations, with a special tendency to templates by Thomas Mann was. He has worked with directors of the New German Cinema as Volker Schlöndorff and also led several times to direct myself. His greatest achievement was the preservation of the Oscars in 1980 for the screenplay of the film version of The Tin Drum (directed by Volker Schlöndorff ).
Franz Seitz in 1981 became chairman of the Association of German Feature Film Producers eV and had a leading member in several other associations influence on the West German film and television production.
He was married to Anne Liese Conrad, father of the children Peter and Gabriele grandfather and the grandson of Sophie, Anni, Benedict and Celina. Franz Seitz died on 19 January 2006. He was until recently worked with great commitment in his profession and was 84 years old.
He was buried at the cemetery in Schliersee.
