Franz von Gaudy

Franz von Gaudy (* April 19, 1800 in Frankfurt ( Oder), † February 5, 1840 in Berlin) was a German poet and novelist.

Life

Franz Bernhard Heinrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Gaudy came from a Scottish family that belonged to the Prussian military aristocracy. His father, Friedrich von Gaudy (1765-1823), was tutor to the future King Friedrich Wilhelm IV and Governor-General of Saxony. He attended the French Gymnasium in Berlin and the prince in Schulpforta. At his father's request he joined in 1818 the Prussian army a ( 1st Guards Regiment Potsdam) and was promoted to lieutenant in 1819. After various disciplinary account of debts and duels he received his discharge in 1833 and lived since then, supported by a pension from the Crown Prince, as a writer in Berlin. Adelbert von Chamisso promoted him after the book of poetry Erato was published in 1829. Artistic creation
