Franz Xaver von Funk

Franz Xaver von Funk ( born October 22, 1840 in Abtsgmuend in eels, † February 24, 1907 in Tübingen ) was a Roman Catholic priest and professor of patristics.

Radio went in Ellwangen to the school and then studied from 1859 at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen first philosophy and theology, and later Philology and Political Economy. In 1863 he received his doctorate in philosophy. In 1864 he was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Rottenburg. From 1865 to 1866 he studied in Paris and then went to Tübingen. He was there from the Wizard later consecrated as Bishop Karl Joseph Hefele of whose adviser he was at the First Vatican Council. In 1875 he became professor of church history with the specialty patristics and Christian Archaeology at the University of Tübingen.

Funk was one of his time to the experts of the early church history and patristics. His textbook of church history experienced numerous editions and was also after his death, long a standard work. Radio endeavored clearly to counteract the contemporary trend of overvaluation of medieval theology.

In 1890, he was raised by awarding the honor Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown in the personal nobility. In 1903 he received the Kommenturkreuz II class of Friedrichs Order.
