The French head is a 562 m high mountain in the Harz, the district is located about 1.4 km north-east of Lonau Osterode am Harz in Lower Saxony. In the north of the French head goes into the mountain with low Braak Vertical separation. To the east and south flows around the little Lonau the French head in Mariental. West of the French head is separated by the Hackenstieltal from Kargeskopf.

The French head is mostly with book, but partly covered with spruce trees. It lies entirely within the Harz National Park.
