Fraser Tombs

The ancient Egyptian necropolis with the name Fraser Tombs (English: Fraser Tombs, sometimes erroneously Frazer Tombs ) is located about ten kilometers north east of al - Minya, and about two kilometers south of Tihna al - Jabal in Middle Egypt.

History

These rock tombs belong to the approximately three -mile cemetery of ancient Akoris (even Mer - nefer ( et ), Per- Imen - mAt - Chent ( j), TA- dehenet ) and come from the 4th and 5th Egyptian dynasty. The grave Lord were stewards of royal estates. In the 5th Dynasty, they are also Hathorpriester.

Research

These tombs were first discovered in the autumn of 1853 by the German Egyptologist Heinrich Brugsch and first described by the British engineer George Willoughby Fraser, whose name they bear today.

Details

Four of 15 ( numbered ) tombs have statues in half profile and hieroglyphic texts of the Old Kingdom. The most important grave is the grave of the second Ni -ankh - kay ( Neka - ankh ), which has the form of a Mastabagrabes. However, it is beaten out of the rock. The decoration of the long narrow rooms victim is next to the statues of victim lists and wills.

The rarely visited by tourists tombs are open to the public.
