Fred C. Gartner

Fred Christian Gartner ( born March 14, 1896 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † September 1, 1972 in Somers Point, New Jersey ) was an American politician. Between 1939 and 1941 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Fred Gartner attended the common schools and the Brown Preparatory School. In the years 1918 and 1919 he served in the final stages of World War II in the U.S. Navy Reserve. After a subsequent law degree from Temple University and his 1920 was admitted as a lawyer, he started working in Philadelphia in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. From 1928 to 1932 he belonged to the State Civil Service Commission in Philadelphia. In the years 1933 and 1934 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1938, Gartner in the fifth electoral district of Pennsylvania was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Frank Joseph Gerard Dorsey on January 3, 1939. Since he has not been confirmed in 1940, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1941. During this time, the last New Deal legislation of the Roosevelt administration there were adopted, which Gartner's party faced a rather negative.

After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Fred Gartner practiced as a lawyer again. He was also CEO of the company Hol -Gar Manufacturing Corporation of Pennsylvania. He died on September 1, 1972 in Somers Point, and was buried in Philadelphia.
