Fred Churchill Leonard

Fred Churchill Leonard ( born February 16, 1856 in Elmer, Potter county, Pennsylvania, † December 5, 1921 in Coudersport, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Fred Leonard attended the common schools, the State Normal School in Mansfield and the Williston Seminary in Easthampton (Massachusetts ). Then he studied until 1883 at Yale College. After studying law and his 1885 was admitted to the bar he began to work in this profession. He first practiced in Elmira, New York, and since 1887 in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. Politically, he joined the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1894 Leonard was in the 16th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Albert Cole Hopkins on March 4, 1895. In 1896, he was not nominated by his party for re-election. Therefore, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1897.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Fred Leonard operated again as a lawyer. Between 1898 and 1906 he was U.S. Marshal. He was responsible for the western part of his native country until 1901; then he took the same position the central district. He also went into the banking industry. He died on December 5, 1921 in Coudersport, where he was also buried.
