Fred L. Turner

Fred Leo Turner ( born January 6, 1933, Des Moines, Iowa; † 7 January 2013) was an American manager.

Life

Fred L. Turner was one of the first employees in 1956, and later partner of Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald 's Corporation. Turner was responsible for international business. He became COO in 1968, in 1977 he followed Kroc as CEO of McDonald's, a position he held until 1997. From 1990 to 2004 he was also chairman of the board, then Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Under the leadership of Turner expanded McDonald's with 31,000 stores in 118 countries.

In 1961 he initiated the McDonald 's Hamburger University.

Turner has also worked as Director of the Aon Corporation, Baxter International and WW Grainger. In 1991 he received the Horatio Alger Award of the eponymous American author.

Fred L. Turner left three daughters.
