Fred Mayer (photographer)

Fred Mayer is a photographer with the Swiss-German dual citizenship. He worked for Stern, Geo, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Swiss Illustrated and various press agencies, including ATP, DPA and AFP. He has published several books and portfolios and worked for Magnum Photos.

Life

Fred Mayer is married to the Keystone photographer Ilse Guenther.

Work

Mayer published, often with his wife, to date more than 30 books. This includes, among other things, a book about the Vatican. The book was published in the Swiss Orell Füssli publishing house. For Magnum Photos He also traveled to Indonesia, where he created a documentary about the then President Surkano. Even the former King Hussein of Jordan accompanied Mayer for a long time. Fred Mayer also published Homage to Hermann Hesse and his Siddhartha, a picture book, inspired by Hesse's novel. In the picture book Mayer tried to capture various scenes from Siddhartha with his camera.

Awards

In 2006, Mayer received an award for his life's work of the Association of Swiss Professional Photographers ( SBF ). He was also nominated for a 2011 Best of ASMP Award.
