Freddie and the Dreamers

Freddie & The Dreamers were a British beat band of the 1960s.

History of the band

Fred " Freddie " Garrity, main occupation milkman, played since 1959 in Manchester in several skiffle groups, most recently at the Kingfishers, from which 1961 Freddie and the Dreamers were.

In October 1961, the group became known when she appeared in a BBC television show, had undertaken a tour of England and had occurred in Hamburg "Top Ten Club".

The end of 1962, after further appearances on television, the band won first recording contract with Columbia and early May was published in 1963 their first single If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody with which they first came into the UK charts on 18 May 1963 and the made it to on Patz 3. The group's success was short-lived: Although you get 1963 in the UK three Top Ten hits in 1964 and another with I Understand, also managed the group in 1965 I'm Telling You Now, a number - one hit in the U.S., but that the hit series of the group was already completed in 1965. In the American hit parade they were represented between March 1965 and September with five titles, where they briefly reached a similar popularity as the Beatles in the USA. Especially popular in the United States was itself designed dance "Do the Freddie "

In addition to their music, they were to be seen in the U.S. as contributors in the films Seaside Swingers and Cuckoo Patrol. In the UK they reached with the two published in 1965 Singles only places 26 and 44, 1966 published another three singles, but they all could not be placed in the chart. In October 1968, the group split up and Garrity moderated the British children's television show Little Big Time, which Garritys re- formed the group with entirely new musicians in 1976 probably only served to may occur on oldies concerts under the name Freddie and the Dreamers. Garrity, who last lived in Newcastle-under -Lyme in Staffordshire, died on 19 May 2006 during a holiday at the age of 69 years
