Freddie Jenkins

Freddy Jenkins, Freddie or Posey Jenkins ( born October 10, 1906 in New York; † 12 Juli1978 ) was an American jazz trumpeter of swing.

Life and work

Jenkins first played in the Jenkins Orphanage band and then at Horace Henderson, before 1928 a member of Duke Ellington's orchestra was. He was employed as a soloist on several recordings; e.g. in " Cotton Club Stomp " and "High Life" in 1929, "Old Man Blue" 1930 ( from the movie Check and Double Check ) and " Swing Low " in 1932. In 1934 he left Ellington, headed at times his own band with Hayes Alvis 1937 and returned briefly back to Ellington. However, he had to give up due to illness play the trumpet and has since written several titles, also worked as a press agent, correspondent and disc jockey. After his retirement as an active musician, he lived for forty years.
