Freddie McGregor

Freddie McGregor (* June 27, 1956 in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica ) is a reggae singer, musician and producer. He belongs to the religion of Rastafari.

Life and career

McGregor's career began at the age of seven years. In 1963 he founded with Ernest Wilson and Peter Austin to Clarendonians and played records at Studio One.

In the 1980s, he also became popular in Europe and had some hits like Big Ship, Push Comes To Shove, Just Do not Want To Be Lonely and I Was Born A Winner. He also played a cover versions of many early reggae standards. He worked throughout his career with producer Junjo Lawes as, Linval Thompson, Gussie Clark and in the 1970s and 1980s with Niney the Observer. In his long career he played many concerts in and outside of Jamaica.

On his Big Ship Recording Studio, he published among others the Luciano and Mikey Spice produced by him.

With the album Anything for You, he was nominated for the Reggae Grammy 2002.
