Freddy Breck

Freddy Breck ( born January 21, 1942 in Sonneberg, Thuringia, actually Gerhard Breker, † December 17, 2008 in Rottach -Egern, Upper Bavaria ) was a German pop singer, composer, producer and presenter.

Life

Raised in Hagen studied Breck first engineering. Then he was discovered by Heinz Gietz as a singer. This produced his hits that were based on well-known classical melodies. His first success all over the world after the famous " Prisoners' Chorus " from Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi. The title Breck brought the first gold record. It was followed by numerous other successes, with whom he appeared in several TV shows. Best known are likely to be two hits Bianca and red roses (both 1973). Brecks plates appeared in Japan, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Scandinavia, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Benelux, United Kingdom. With We believe in tomorrow, the English version of All over the world, he was represented in 1973 25 weeks in South African charts.

1974 Breck published in the UK, the single So In Love With You, which debuted at number 44 on the charts and remained there his only success. Big sales successes Breck, however, recorded in the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. In Germany in 1977 he had his last chart hit: The stars steh'n good - then followed by only isolated successes in the airplay charts. In the 1980s he devoted himself more to composing. He wrote, among other things, for the original Naabtal Duo, the Kastel Spatzen and Nina & Mike. He also worked as a presenter on various radio stations.

In the 1990s he was active again reinforced as a singer. In 1998 he founded with his wife Astrid, with whom he had been married since 1989, the company Sun Day Records as own label and in 1999 sang the couple as a duo " Astrid & Freddy Breck ". Gerhard Breker aka Freddy Breck died of cancer at his home on Lake Tegernsee and was buried in the new church cemetery in Rottach -Egern.

Freddy Breck received during his lifetime 35 gold and 5 platinum records, Golden Lion, Golden Camera Awards, Golden barrel organs, Hermann- Lons Medal, 2x Bull Salzburg in gold and the Euro Star in gold.
