Freddy Cannon

Freddy Cannon ( born December 4, 1940 in Lynn (Massachusetts ); actually Frederico Anthony Picariello Jr.) is an American rock ' n' roll singer in the late 1950s and early 1960s had some hits.

Life

Cannon grew up north of Boston in the suburb of Lynn and began at an early age to care for black music. This interest was the musical involvement of his parents (his father played trumpet and his mother worked as a songwriter ) intensified. His influences include Buddy Johnson, Big Joe Turner, and especially Chuck Berry.

Cannon joined a group called The spin drift, in which he sang and played rhythm guitar. After writing with the group a song called Cha -Cha -Do, the band parted and Cannon founded Freddy Karmon & the Hurricanes, with whom he completed a series of performances.

Cannon took his band on a demo tape of rock'n'roll - songs rock and roll baby, his mother had written for him. This tape was music producer Bob Crewe and Frank Slay along with he wrote the song to Tallahassee Lassie order. Cannon got a recording contract with Swan Records, moved to Philadelphia and changed at the request of the Swan - boss Bernie Binnick his name of Freddy Karmon to Freddy Cannon.

In the coming years, Cannon had a number of hits, including Palisades Park, Okefenokee, Shoe Shine Boy Chattanoogie, Way Down Yonder In New Orleans, Muskrat Ramble and later Humdinger, Transistor Sister, Teen Queen of the Week and If You Were a Rock and roll Record. In the first half of the 1960s, Cannon moved to Warner Brothers Records, where he released hits like Abigail Beecher, Action, Beechwood City and The Dedication Song. Even after the successes had subsided, Cannon continued to perform on a regular basis.
