Frederick IV of Baden

Friedrich von Baden (* July 9, 1458; † September 24, 1517 in Lier ) was non- reigning Margrave of Baden and as Frederick IV Bishop of Utrecht.

He is the son of Margrave Karl I of Baden and Catherine of Austria.

1496 chose the chapter the son of the Marquis bishop. The Margrave was canon to Utrecht and treasurer of the Cologne cathedral - college. He also had been recommended by Charles of Egmond, Count of funds, the Archduke Maximilian I and his son Philip. Thus, Frederick was able to keep his solemn entry in Utrecht on September 17, 1496.

With its choice of the cathedral chapter had hoped for a peaceful future. But Frederick was not a pastor and church affairs interested him little. He was continually involved in wars with its neighbors: with the Duke of Cleves, to the lords of wiping and even with Charles of Egmond. This he financed by high taxes on his subjects. With these wars but he was not very successful. And when he tried to come to terms with the King of France, to be also Bishop of Metz, he had to go at the instigation of Emperor Maximilian I.. He retired to Lier, where he died the following year.

He is regarded as the last bishop of Utrecht, which was connected yet the thought world of the Middle Ages.
