Frederick of Cieszyn

Friedrich von Teschen ( Fridrich Těšínský Czech, Polish Fryderyk cieszyński; * around 1480 to 1483, † 1507) was Duke of Teschen, Rector of the University of Vienna and dean of the cathedral chapter Breslauer. He came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piast dynasty.

Life

Frederick's parents were Duke Casimir II and Johanna, daughter of the Duke Troppauer Viktorin, a son of the Bohemian King George of Podiebrad.

Although Friedrich was the firstborn son, the usual state the successor of his father, he was diagnosed by his parents for the clerical profession. With the support of his father and other Silesian Prince Frederick should be 1501 appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Breslau Johann Roth with the right of succession. Because of the resistance of the Breslau cathedral chapter of this plan could not be realized. The target of Frederick Office of the Coadjutor was not originally from Silesia John V. Thurzos.

Then Friedrich studied law at the University of Vienna. As princely Scholar him honorary academic dignity and 1503 was the rector was soon awarded. Presumably, with the support of his father, who still aspired to a high spiritual office for Frederick, he was awarded the Office of the Dean, for which he is occupied in 1506 in Breslau cathedral chapter. It is unknown as to when he stayed to study in Italy. In June 1507 he died during a training period in Siena.
