Frederick Stock

Friedrich ( Frederick) Wilhelm August floor ( born November 11, 1872 in Jülich, Germany, † 20 October 1942 Chicago, USA ) was a German violist, conductor and composer.

Floor was the son of a stationed in the citadel Jülich Prussian military bandmaster. He received his education at the Cologne Conservatory and became a violinist in the orchestra Gurzenich. In 1895 he was a violist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, assistant conductor in 1899. As chief conductor from 1905, he led the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to worldwide success and led it until his death.

In addition, he composed many songs, chamber music and symphonic works. On 3 June 1994, the citadel was unveiled a plaque on floor in the presence of members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Stocks granddaughter in Jülich on the southern wing.
