Frederick W. True

Frederick William True ( July 8, 1858 * Middletown, Connecticut, † June 25, 1914 ) was an American biologist and 1897-1911 the chief curator of biology at the United States National Museum, now part of the Smithsonian Institution.

True graduated from the University of New York in 1878 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was from 1883 to 1897 curator of mammals. His specialty was the whales, the true whales were named after him. From 1881 until his death in 1914 he remained with the Smithsonian Institution in close contact.
