Frederik Vermehren

Increase Frederik ( born May 12, 1823 in Ringstedt on Zealand; † January 10, 1910 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish painter of the late 19th century.

Increase was a student of Hans Harder (1792-1873) in Soro, attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and then became a student of Jørgen Roed ( 1808-88 ). 1855-57, 1862 and 1878 he traveled to Italy and Paris. From 1873-1901, he held a professorship at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. He is counted for Eckerberg School and is considered as the last prominent representative of the Golden Age in Denmark. He painted landscapes, interiors and portraits. His paintings hang in every major collections in Denmark, but also in Norway and Sweden.

His sons, Gustaf (1861-1931) and Sophus (1866 - ) were also in Denmark known painter.
