Fredrik Rosing Bull

Fredrik Rosing Bull ( born December 25, 1882 in Oslo, † June 7, 1925 ) was a Norwegian engineer. He was involved in the development of punch card machines, for which he invented, among other punches. FR Bull is considered the father of Norwegian information technology.

Frederik was born the eighth of fifteen children in Oslo. His father practiced and researched in the field of ophthalmology, several of his siblings also beat an engineering career. He studied from 1904 to 1907 at the Christiania Teknisk Skole in Christiania.

In 1919 he enlisted in Oslo for his first patent for a tabulating machine. Two years later he enlisted in Zurich for a patent registration of an electrical machine for evaluation of statistics. The Swiss Egli and Endrich, and the Belgians Genon acquired the patents in 1928 and only a year after first punch card machines in Switzerland was made. In order to exploit these patents, the later successful businesses Bull Computer was founded in 1931 as Compagnie des Machines Bull ( CMB).

At the age of 42 years, Fredrik Rosing Bull died of cancer.
