Free Beer

Vores Øl ( Danish for Our beer ) is a beer that was developed by students at the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with Danish artist group Superflex, to show how the open-source concept can be applied outside the digital world. It is considered the first beer, were asked for the recipe and brand elements under an open source license. It will be further developed under the name of Free Beer.

Concept

In December 2004, the concept of students of the University of Copenhagen was presented together with the Danish artists' group Superflex the internet. Recipe and brand elements such as the name and the label of the beer were released under the Creative Commons Attribution / Share Alike License 2.0. Recipe and brand can be modified according to your wishes, and also the sale of beer is permitted in compliance with the License.

The beer should have an alcohol content of about 6 % after preparation. Unlike conventional beers are available as additional yet guarana, which is also achieved by the caffeine content an encouraging effect.

The name Free Beer is an allusion to the distinction with Free software and freeware between free as in freedom ( free as in freedom ) and free as in beer ( free as in free beer, so here free of charge). Because the recipe is under a free license, the beer is "free as in freedom ", but not absolutely free, so do not "free as in free beer " ( according to the definition of free software).

The slogan Vores Øl was used in the 1990s by the Danish brewery Carlsberg in advertising.
